Michelle Obama's head on a portrait of topless slave

Controversial: A Spanish magazine digitally altered a French portrait of a slave to include the First Lady's faceOut of context: The article reportedly praises Mrs Obama's popularity, but the painting, titled Portrait d'une négresse, was originally meant as a symbol of women's freedom after slavery was abolished in France in the late 18th century

A Spanish Magazine, Magazine Fuera de Serie has First Lady Michelle Obama’s face superimposed over an 1800 female slave painting by French artist Marie-Guilhelmine Benoist on its August 2012 edition. Seated on a chair covered with the American Flag, right breast exposed, and wearing an Aunt Jemina headscarf, the image is part of a feature article examining Mrs. Obama’s popularity among the American public. This has sure raised some controversy as it is been persived as offensive and racist.
